In tight economic times, when budgets are stretched for presents, food and family holidays, charitable causes are usually the first victims of fiscal prudence.
But the Starfish Greathearts Foundation is offering an innovative option of adding a novel stocking-filler to your gifts bag while being philanthropic.
The charity, which provides support to more than 12,000 orphaned or vulnerable SA children, has launched an interactive children’s e-book, The Starfish Story, aimed at children from the ages of two to seven years old.
The book is available via an Apple app and was conceived by the digital advertising agency Retroviral, which worked closely with designers and developers to produce a quintessentially SA story for children in an interactive, e-book format.
It tells the story of Nozi, whose magical adventures start when her mother tucks her into bed at night.
The Starfish Story is an ideal first book for a child, as the text can either be read or narrated by television presenter Lebo Motsoeli. For older children who are learning to read, the tale includes a series of interactive features, such as lighting and animals that come to life on the screen when they are clicked or when the iPad is hugged, tapped or moved from side to side.
The Starfish Story e-book app is available on iOS for iPad for R139: https://appsto.re/za/WY2nfb.i
